Joseph, son of John Story of Bingfield Hall, Hexham, was born 1697, went to Edinburgh University and became Chaplain to the Irish House of Commons. He became Bishop of Killaloe in 1740, and then Bishop of Kilmore, County Cavan in 1742.
His first wife was Deborah Richardson and they had two daughters:
In 1721 he married his second wife, Sophia Gratton, widow of Dr. Gratton speaker of the House of Commons and daughter of Sir William Gore ( Sir William's son, Sir Ralph was also speaker ). They had one son:
