I am anxious to to obtain information as to the family of John Story who came to Halifax, Nova Scotia from Londonderry in the latter part of the 18th century.
The said John Story was connected with the Imperial Transport Service at some time between 1775 and 1782.  He came to Halifax between 1765 and 1785, a widower with four sons, Frank, William, Joseph, and Marshall and two (or more) daughters, and married there into one of the notable families the Hills (his second wife being a widow Mrs. Mary Hill) and two of his sons married two of her daughters by her first husband.  Everything indicates that he was a man of refinement and of considerable means and his sons maintained his reputation in that direction.
Tradition, in our branch of the family XXX was directly descended XXX the Rt. Rev.  Joseph Story Bishop of Kilmore, though he left among his papers, I understand a coat of arms of "Story of XXXford" (one note now shown in Burke's publications) bearing the motto "non mihi sed tibi XXX" I want to ascertain if possible, the date and place of his birth and that of his wife and children and his first wife's name with any particulars of his and her descent that may be available.
He died in Halifax in 1800 a aged 64 (according to the tombstone in St Paul's XXX there) so would have been born around at 1736.
I have given the names of his sons in supposed chronological order, yet, William Story's headstone reads " died 29 August 1857 aged 90 years" which would  XXX as about 1767, while Marshall Story's  reads died 12 April 1839 aged 78 years" which would make his birth about 1761.
It has been inferred that John Storys first wife's name was XXX Marshall as that's name has been continued in the family as a Christian name ever since.
