My dear Robert,
I desired Louise her to write and tell you of Arthur's illness, congestion of the left lung. I'm thankful today to be able to tell you that he is doing well and I Trust the worst is over - he had a good night and fish today, the first solid food he has tasted for a week, and he is fearfully wasted and and will need every possible care bestowed on him - we are in great anxiety, as a boy took sick at the school and was sent down here, and is now in scarletina - the risk to Arthur is terrible, your Aunt Hannah said Dr. Thompson from the consumptive hospital yesterday here, as he, and Dr. Walker who is attending Arthur both say that it is impossible yet to move him, but I hope by this day week to have him safe in London - I must trust all to a Higher hand than mine. Marshall doctor and all say that I must remove Arthur for good from school, and of course must now be guided by medical advice as to which is best for him in the future - and thank God this time he spared to us. You ought to consult a Dr. Harman about your cough, remember what Stokes said of you when 14 and do not neglected.
October will be on is only too soon I fear, I should like to know what the Indian estimate will be. The expenses are so frightful I shall have to make great changes, and probably Bingfield will never be my home now - I feel very sad often -and yet look at the life given back to me -and thank God for what he gives - we wish - but He knows what is good for us - and when our desires are not granted we must feel it is a Father's hand over us. I am pressed and much worked as a nurse night and day - so take this hurried line as it is with love from
yr affect Mother
