La Storietta was built in 1902 for Caroline Story wife of Joseph Story (barrister) and mother of Lt. Col. Robert Story. It was she who had the money in the family; her people were Reids, brewers and wine merchants. La Storietta is about 500 feet up from the sea, on the road called Via Dei Colli, the hill road behind Bordighera. It is some ten to fifteen miles from the French border. It looks out over the Mediterranean Sea and in the westerly direction the lights of Monte Carlo can be seen at night. Vera North (nee Story) visited it twice between the wars and more can be read about it in her book "Comings and Goings".
