R.I.P.
To the Glory of God and in the pious memory of
EDWARD JOLLIE C.E.
one of the earliest pioneers in the settlement
in the colony of New Zealand.
This tablet is placed by his wife and sons.
As a surveyor and C.E. he did excellent work for the New Zealand Company, in
different parts of the colony. Subsequently under the Canterbury Association
he laid out the towns of Lyttelton and Christchurch. For some years he
held responsible positions in the provicial government of Canterbury.
On August 7th 1894 aged 70
he passed to a better country
leaving behind him the record of a life well spent
in laying the foundations of a new country.
